Silk Wrap Nails...??

I've been thinking about getting silk wrap nails...i used acrylic for 2 years and i have my own nails back again but im having a problem keeping them long and pretty.

So what exactly are silk nails...do they drill your nail beds like arcylic nails....are they heathly?? etc.Silk Wrap Nails...??
Try Bio Sculpture nails. They apparently dont file your nails thin, and are great. I have tried them yet, although I am in the same position as you. There arent that many places that do it here in Oz..Silk Wrap Nails...??
im a nail tech, a lot of my customers has quit using acrylic nails, due to the fact that it weakens your nails, and switched to liquid gel overlay, which is a lot safer on your nails and feels very natural.

for an gel over lay all we need to do is file you nail a bit, to remove oils and dead skin on your nail, no drilling is involved

Wraps versus tips? (fake nails)?

I hope I am calling them the right name--but what is the difference between the wraps and the fake nails? Does one cause more damage then the other?

I would love to have nice nails, but I had fake nails once before and they hurt, for one thing, and when I got them taken off they ruined my real nails for a few months (they were very thin and brittle)

Are the wraps any different? Is that what you call them? What is an alternative to fake nails?

Thanks!!Wraps versus tips? (fake nails)?
fake nails are really bad unless you get it done at a Nail salon with some one who knows what they are doing

Acrylic, Gel, fiberglass, or Silk Wraps for my nails?

I have naturally beautiful nails that grow long and strong. I love getting my nails polished at a salon, but the polish always begins to chip the next day! I am tired of wasting my money and want to know what I can apply to my nails to keep the polish on the longest.

I have had acrylic before, and dislike the thickness and bulkiness on my nails. I want something to feel thin and natural- and help give me long lasting polish! I am unfamiliar with gels and silk wraps. I've heard about fiberglass, but don't know anything about it.

Thanks for your help!!!!! Have a great day!Acrylic, Gel, fiberglass, or Silk Wraps for my nails?
I have always had long, strong nails, too. I would never get anything but polish put on them. They will make your nails weak. To help polish last longer: if you have a manicure go home and put a top coat on, then put top coat on every couple of days. I use Sally Hanson Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat. It dries fast and works great. Also, if you are doing any cleaning be sure to wear gloves.Acrylic, Gel, fiberglass, or Silk Wraps for my nails?
gel and silk are very fragile, and expensive.

Tell your nail tech to do your acrylic very very thin, and give it a gel overlay. It'll cost about $50 for the original nails, but the color lasts longer and looks smoother, and you can remove it with nail polish remover without damaging the gel.

Does anyone know how to take off artificial nails that are ';gel'; and silk wrapped? (not acrylic nails)

Acetone should do the trick. Straight acetone, not polish remover with acetone in it, it's not strong enoughDoes anyone know how to take off artificial nails that are ';gel'; and silk wrapped? (not acrylic nails)
You will need to soak them off. You should be able to find the solution at Walmart near the nail polish removers.

does silk wrap ruin your nail when take it off??Silk wrap nails......?
Yes. I had them and when I finally took them off my nails were deformed. Looked all lumpy and my nails were thin and brittle. It took almost 6 months for them to look normal again.

Yes, they do. Acrylic nails also ruin your nails after a while. All that filing and glue will have its effect eventually
    Yes it always does.
Yeah, I've heard that they do. Just stick to polish.

In a silk wrap, they add silk fibers to your nails and seal it for strength. As far as me, I would 10 times rather have a pedicure than a manicure. It's so relaxing! And, it can sometimes be hard to get all the rough skin, and clean up little toenails yourself (because you have to bend over, while the salon person has more leverage). You can keep as little or as much on for the massage as you want. If you don't want to show too much, just do what feels comfortable. They will keep whatever part they're not massaging covered with a towel. Remember, they see bodies all day...my friend's dad who is an ob-gyn says that he never understands why women are uncomfortable getting pelvic exams. He says that he does so many, that it's just automatic--they all seem the same, and he doesn't ever notice if people shave or whatever. lol I'm sure massage therapists are the same way. If you want to be modest, you could wear boy shorts and a sports bra. Enjoy! What is a silk wrap for nails?do you prefer a pedicure or manicure or manicure for my first spa visit?
i would do a pedicure and as far as the massage goes i wouldn't worry about it because your not completely naked and you have a towl over you

I want to get a french manicure but to I get tips or fake nails or wraps?

I'm not sure what to do...I wanna get a french manicure and I can't just paint my regular nails because they aren't long enough plus I want the look of the fake ones but I'm not sure what to do...tip? fake nails? wraps? And also how long does it last? Thanks!I want to get a french manicure but to I get tips or fake nails or wraps?
The answerer above me is correct you can do a french manicure on short nails. You can buy a sport length nail kit if you decide to do it yourself, but if you go to a nail shop then they usually ask you how long you want them to be as they're working on your nails. You don't want to leave anything on your nails longer than two weeks at a time without the proper maintenance.

Nail enhancements like acrylics can be applied either to extend the lenght of your nails or just to strengthen them. In the last case acrylic is applied as an overlay without using tips.

Acrylics last between 2-3 weeks depending on the care you take of them and how your natural nails grow. After this period, maintenace should be performed and the nails last for another 2-3 weeks.

I hope this was helpful,Take Care!!! :)I want to get a french manicure but to I get tips or fake nails or wraps?
You can do a french manicure on quite short nails.

Painting the tips white makes it look like you have some nail growth.

My suggestion is get a kit and do it yourself to try it out.

    Easy and cheap.

Also if you do your nails yourself you will be more inclined to let them grow a bit as opposed to just having someone else adding nails for you.

    Non-UV Gel Nails vs Wraps?

I have extremly thin and brittle nails that are finaly growing. I want to either wrap them or use the non uv gel to keep them strong from breaking. I also want to do them myself. I want to learn and do not want to spend the money on having them done when I would rather do them. I have two questions:

    1. Which is stronger and will not lift (i have acrylic now, and they lift the next day)?

    2. Someone said I can use wraps and do a thin gel overlay on top of the wrap. Is this true or not a good idea?

Thank you!Non-UV Gel Nails vs Wraps?
a wrap is one of the best things you can do but doin so on your own may not give the same results as a nail salon would but if that's how you wanna do them then i would first clean the nails file and shape them as you want them the apply a nail strengthener/hardern then apply a nail wrapping nail polish I'm not sure the actual name but i know they exist cos I've use it most of the time they are clear pink or green , then your done.. oh also use vitiam e nail polish it works do this every week and you will see improvement.Non-UV Gel Nails vs Wraps?

  • Uv gel nails Vs. Wraps?

Can somebody tell me the pros and cons of uv gels and wraps... I was told that wraps are better for your nails. I never got tips and never do want them... I have friends who had tips and when they take it off, their nails are really ugly.... I want my nails to be nice and long when I take off, whatever is on my nails. I don't know about Uv gel nails... but one of my close friends told me its better than wraps... but I don't want to have my nails cut. My nails are short right now, and I need them done by next Friday, for my boyfriend's birthday party! Thanks for replying...Uv gel nails Vs. Wraps?
Wraps are good for people who have weak, brittle nails. They are not a good choice for people who are hard on their nails as they will break easily. When done right, they look good. They are very realistic looking.

UV gel nails are very realistic looking as well - when done by a person with lots of experience with gels, and who is highly skilled AND who also uses top quality products. Cheap UV gels look cheap and can yellow easily. Good UV nail gels are non-toxic, odorless, non-yellowing, durable, and flexible which means less breaks and cracking of the nail. They come in many different colors, so you should have many colors to choose from. A very good tech can also apply glitter, mylar, and more onto gel nails and they will look really good! I would recommend gels to anyone - as long as they are going to keep them on for a long time and have regular fills done on them. I would NOT recommend gel nails to people who do not plan on keeping them on for very long as they must be filed off when it comes time to have them removed. UV gel nails are not soakable as acrylics are. In other words, they cannot be soaked off in pure acetone because UV gel nails are non-porous ad are resistant to liquids of all types, including acetone. So, if you are going to keep them on only for a few days, or even just a week or two, then go with the wraps. If you plan to keep them for at least several months, go with the gels. Just make sure you don't get scammed at the nail salon if you get UV gel nails. Many discount shops pull a scam where they apply acrylic nails, then apply a UV gel topcoat - and call them gel nails while charging you the higher price for gel nails. If a tech uses ANY liquid and powder on your nails, you have acrylic nails - NOT gel nails. It's really pretty simple. UV nail gels look exactly as the name implies- a gel. It is never a powder. Just be aware of this because some scammers will go as far as telling you, 'It powder gel.' Sorry, there is no such thing as powder gel. Gel is a gel. Simple as that. UV gels are applied in several thin layers, each of which MUST be cured under a UV lamp for about two minutes each. This means many individual 'cures.' But, while one hand is curing under the UV lamp, a good tech will be working on the other hand. It takes normally about an hour and a half to apply a full set of UV gel nails. Wraps can take several hours to apply because it is a very time consuming process to do them. But yes, you are correct in saying that wraps are 'better' for your nails. And sorry, but for gels, or even acrylics - your nails will have to be short. Otherwise, your natural nail will stick out from under the nail enhancement and will look not-so-good. There are other reasons too, but that is primarily why they need to be short. But, they will grow back!

Have fun at your BF's party!Uv gel nails Vs. Wraps?
I have UV gels and I love them. There's nothing like them.. I do not use tips.. I have them applied to my own natural nail.. They feel great, look natural, are always shiny (if you take nail polish off looks as though you have clear polish on with high shine) best of all you will never get a fungus!

Well i don't have a problem with tips i have had the once and they didn't make my nails look ugly, somebody that i know wanted her nails to grow longer and stronger so she ask the lady at the nail salon and she said you can get this certain kind of tip that it helps make you nails grow more but if you just do not want to take the chance with tips then i would get gels.

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails- Hard as Wraps polish?

What is it exactly supposed to do? Does it actually work?Sally Hansen Hard as Nails- Hard as Wraps polish?
    Directly from Allure:

What it does: One coat gives the nails the strength and durability of acrylic wraps.

What's in it: Nylon and Acrylic Gel

How it works: Nylon bonds to the nail's natural keratin to reinforce the surface strangth while the acrylic gel forms a protective layer the nail to prevent chipping and peeling

    Expert Says: ';The purpose of wraps is to give you harder nails that last longer than an average manicure,'; says manicurist Sheril Bailey. ';This polish has those same benefits without the bulkiness and removing it is musch less of a hassle.';

What we say: Our normally brittle nails endured ten days of keyboard pounding without so much as a single chipSally Hansen Hard as Nails- Hard as Wraps polish?
They generally are absorbed into the nail plate only a few layers deep. And when they do, they hold the first few layers together, helping to prevent peeling, and providing some strength, but not really that much. They do not penetrate the entire nail plate. Nail strengtheners/hardeners are not meant for use on healthy nails but rather only people with weak, brittle nails. And they are not for long term use either. Many contain formaldehyde - and over time, this will cause your nails to become weak and brittle due to its drying effect, so use a strengthener only until the problem you are using it for has been resolved, and no longer than that. But, if you already have healthy nails, avoid using it in the first place because it won't do any good, but it could do harm to your nails. If you are having problems with your nails, the best thing to do is to find the cause of the problem, and treat that instead of using things like strengtheners. These act as sort of a band-aid, but they don't provide a cure to whatever problem it is that people are experiencing with their nails.
oh yes, they work. The best thing to do is first use the nail hardener and paint across the nail then up and down across the top of the nail and the back of them if your nails are long enough, then your polish the same way. Works like a charm.

    Strong nails? Wraps?

I used to get my nails done, but it took too long to maintain going to the salon, and REALLY broke my budget. I'm pretty good at doing things myself (waxing, coloring my hair, etc.). My nails have recovered since then (years ago) and are getting longer. I really miss the durability and longevity the wrapping gives your nails...

Until the wounds have scabs. Then, a little poke of nail will come up and take a month to fully grow back. The top of the fully grown nail will look deformed, so just clip it and it will look like the nail didn't even have to regrow. My middle finger nail ripped off. Leave it unwrapped, it needs the air to heal. By leaving it wrapped it leaves the wound moist and that invites bacteria.

What is better, gel wraps or acrylic nails?

Well I guess we all would like to have long beautiful looking nails but artifical is not the answer. You could be asking for trouble, I've seen it on friends and it's not pretty. On QVC they have 2 products, one is called Pro Strong and the other is called Tips. That is the way I would go, they work well. I like Tips, try them both to see which is best for you but I would stay away from the artificial stuff, natural is always best. Also take the vitamins for skin, hair and nails and also gelatin too. What is better, gel wraps or acrylic nails?
acrylic, i wore gel for an hour and started to get an infection immadiately, it takes all of the oxygen out of your nail and that causes it to fester. acrylic blocks some oxygen but it does let some in. so there for it is much better. What is better, gel wraps or acrylic nails?
Acrylic is better, they're fake but they dont get plastered to your natural nails like gel. My thumb nail had to be taken off because i had chosen gel.
gel wraps are more natural looking and you don't have to get a fill as often as acrylic, if your looking for something more durable i would suggest acrylic, to the lady above with the infection the nail tech probably wasn't using sterile equip. both are damaging to your nail beds but thats the price of beauty.
    acrlic if ya ask me
I find that the Acrylics are better. They're less expensive and I have them taken off after 8 months just to let a new, healthy nail grow back in. I do have friends that complain that the acrylics work their way off too easily so they have the gel nails put on and they love them. It also seems that the gel nails are more clear than the acrylics.
gel nails are not as heavy as acrylic but they are very hard to get off. lots of drilling. an acrylic nail can be soaked off in 20-30 minutes without further damaging the nail bed. I also like that with acrylic, you can customize your color preferences such as a natural white tips verses the bright white or different shades of pinks for a french look or even chose colored acrylic. no polish nicks!
It depends on who does your nails. I have heard gel is better, and Ihave heard acylic is better. It depends on you and what you like.

Your vet will be able to give you some pain relief for your pet and bandage her foot/feet if they feel it's appropriate. They will be able to help you. My dog's nail got torn...keep it wrapped?

My dog tore his nail a few days ago. I always keep them short, but somehow he must have snagged it and tore it. It is ripped about half way down, the quick is exposed. When I noticed it, it was bleeding. I cleaned it and it stopped. Then I noticed that there was a lot of dirt (from going potty outside) and fuzz attached to it, so I started cleaning (peroxide) and wrapping it every day. He's been wrapped for a couple days now. I've tried to limit his activity. I took off the wrap to clean it and it's not bleeding ot anything, but has a dark color to it. When I put the wrap on yesterday, it was clean and normal nail color. I left the wrap off now and he's been licking it. Should I let him? Should I wrap it again? Will the rest of the nail die? I know it has to be kept clean, but will cleaning it too much do something to the nerve? Do I just leave it? My dogs have snagged their nails before, but they just grew back with no problems. I don't want to hurt him by touching it if I shouldn't. He listens very well and does what I tell him even if it hurts, and I know cleaning it hurts him. I feel bad.My dog's nail got torn...keep it wrapped?
If the quick is exposed, that's very painful for the dog. It can also get Infected very easily. You need to get your poor dog to the vet, and they might have to remove the nail!My dog's nail got torn...keep it wrapped?
I would not keep it wrapped. Unless you've been trained to properly wrap a limb it's VERY easy to cut off the circulation.

Yes, keep it clean but do so by soaking it in warm soapy water then rinsing it well.

Peroxide is not a disinfectant %26amp; can actually inhibit healing.

If it was my dog, I'd take him to the vet so they can trim off the torn area %26amp; possibly start him on an antibiotic.
its probably best to take him to the vet to have the nail removed. if it is still attached , he runs the risk of tearing it again causing him pain and unnecessary bleeding.
your probs referring to the dew claw, this will cause massive pain to your dog and are usually taken off when they are young to avoid this from happening, you should see a vet asap so your dog is not hurting
It's good that you were able to stop the bleeding. Once one cuts into the quick, it can be relatively difficult to stop the bleeding.

I would simply place a sock over the clean paw/wrapped foot to keep him from chewing it, and to keep the paw clean while he is scampering about outside.

If things look normal, and nothing is on his paw, yet, he is still licking at it, bothering it, etc, there's a possibility that it could be painful. I would get in to see your vet, and get it looked at. I work at an emergency clinic for pets, and in some cases the nail must be manipulated or removed. They can also give him some pain medication and/or antibiotics as needed.

like 15% or 20% or what?My mom is getting fake nails or silk-wrapped tips tomorrow. They cost $70, how much would the tip be?
$70.00 that is expensive. Either way my rule is 3-5 bucks per limb. Depending on the level of service. My mom is getting fake nails or silk-wrapped tips tomorrow. They cost $70, how much would the tip be?
I've left as little as $5 because the lady did a pretty bad job, and she made me bleed. I wanted to not leave her anything but I had to be semi-courteous.

And the last time I went to another places that was very nice and the lady did a very nice job... so I left her about $15.

$20 seems a little too pricey for me, but that just might be my opinion.
I normally give them a $10 tip. It depends on how good they are doing. Are they rushing? $5 tip. Did they take there time? $20 just as normal $10
70 dollars...r u serious don't give them anything ..they are including the tip already I travel to NY and live in TX and both places the price range between 35-45 dollars..and i go to spas
    A typical tip is 18%.

    $70 x 0.18 = $12 rounded down to nearest whole dollar
I would tip $10 to $15 dollars if they did a good job.
    10 bucks :)
    5 bucks is enough

i'd say 10 bucks is too much.

go with 5. you dont wanna give coins. 5 dollar bill. done.
70 bucks OMG thats a rip off
slap down like 15 bucks.. not biggie

My nails have grown quite long, is there a protective wrap I can have put on them (except acrylic)?

I also don't want my own nails filed down so they become thin and weak.My nails have grown quite long, is there a protective wrap I can have put on them (except acrylic)?
You can have silk or fibreglass overlay, fibreglass is good and you will not need to have your own nails filed down, but you will need the shine just taken off the surface, but this is done very lightly. You will need to go for regular maintenance as your nails grow just as you would with full extensions. I used to have UV gel overlays but found fibreglass to be better, however I have now reverted to having full acrylic extensions as my own nails rarely grow due to my job.My nails have grown quite long, is there a protective wrap I can have put on them (except acrylic)?
You could use hardening nail polish?? :) It works for me!

    Silk wrap fo the nails?

my mom dosent let me get fake nails.is silk wrap the same thing?or is it just a nail polish?Silk wrap fo the nails?
Well, I have seen many people put silk over acrylic which doesn't make much sense to me. There is ';silk wrap'; nail polish which isn't really different from any other nail polish so don't waste your money on it! You can get REAL silk wrap done at a nail salon. It really helps to strengthen your nails and looks really nice! Its a little pricey but really worth it. The nail techs will cut a piece of real silk to fit your finger nail exactly and glue it onto your nail, wrapping it a few times. MUCH better than fake nails! If you must have a little extra length in your nails you can get just the tip glued on and then wrapped in silk! Good choice!Silk wrap fo the nails?
hey if anyone has any pictures of the outcome can you please show me? thx lots

Silk wrap I think is still considered fake nails. I think it adds a material to your nails and doesn't come off for quite awhile. A lot of people do it, but it kind of sucks because it kind of ruins your real nails underneath. I wouldn't recommend it. I would recommend just doing a basic natural pedicure that just takes care of your own nails and does a nice paint job to them.
A silk wrap is another form of artificial overlay for the nail, just done with silk rather than acrylic or gel systems.

How can I remove the silk wrapping from my nails entirely.?

Buy a bottle of plain acetone, not nail polish remover and soak.

    Silk wrap or acrylic nails?

I just got my nails done the other day with my dad's gf.

she told the lady to do silk wrap on my nails or whatever thats called.

a few months ago I had my nails done with acrylic.

I was just wondering, whats the difference?what do you girls do?should i do it the other way?Silk wrap or acrylic nails?
Silk wraps are more flexible and thinner. Acrylic is more durable. Personally, I find that acrylic holds better because it stands up to water and abuse. Silk wraps don't.

Neither enhancement is more damaging that the other. What's damaging is the nail technician and her technique. If she is not using a drill to file or over filing on your natural nail then there shouldn't be that much damage. Also if she is using quality products there shouldn't be either.Silk wrap or acrylic nails?
they look and feel the same, but wraps are less damaging for the names.

Whats the best type of fake nails to get? acrylics, silk wrap ect... and why?

i am thinking about getting my nails done but i dont know which ones to get?Whats the best type of fake nails to get? acrylics, silk wrap ect... and why?
The best kind to get would be gel nails they are the strongest. Although they are a little more expensive than acrylics.Whats the best type of fake nails to get? acrylics, silk wrap ect... and why?
gel nails ... they look more pretty and last longer
acrylic...they are stronger if you are heavy with your hands

What is the difference between silk wraps and acrylic nails?

Acrylic nails, they rough up your natural nail to make the acrylic adhere to them, they are raised (unnaturally), they can lift and you can get a fungus. On the other hand, silk wraps are just a thin layer of sticky backed silk that goes over your natural nail. They don't have to damage your nail to apply them, they don't lift, and they aren't raised in a freakish manner like acrylics. Basically they put the ';silk wrap'; on your nail and apply resin or glue over it, buff it, and polish. You go in for ';fills'; ,same as acrylics, about every 2 weeks. If you want to remove them you can without the same damage you would have if you removed acrylics. Silk wraps are better, they basically just let you strengthen your natural nail, acrylics mask it.

How much will it cost for me to have false nails and silk wraps?

i know that different salons have different prices, but how much roughly?

also, i know that you have the have them maintained..how often would this have to be done and how much does this cost each time?

any help is appriciated, thanks xHow much will it cost for me to have false nails and silk wraps?
25-40 roughly, the place that I go it's 35 but it totally depends where you go. [(for the first time)] I pay $15 for the refills. %26amp; usually I go in every two weeks. Just a notice; when you take them off they make your nails really thin %26amp; weak. Also, you could get fungus if water gets trapped in between your nail %26amp; the acrylic. Hope you enjoy though; the look is worth it (:

What exactly are uv nails? crystal nails? a silk wrap?

Gel (UV, Solar, Crystal) nails are made with a ';light cured'; or “UV” gel consisting of pre-mixed polymers and monomers. This special gel is first brushed onto the surface of the natural nail, then is set, or ';cured,'; under an ultraviolet light. ';No-light'; gels, an alternative to the light cured gel, are slowly gaining in popularity. These gel nails are cured by brushing or spraying a gel activator onto the nails or by dipping the fingernails into water. Gel nails can be used over the entire nail and can also be used to fix split or broken nails. Artificial fingernails made from gel tend to look more natural than acrylic nails, but are not as strong or durable. Additionally, if they are not applied by a qualified professional, they may be hard to remove, resulting in damage to your natural nails.

Wrap nails are small, thin pieces of silk, fiberglass, paper or linen that have been cut to a desired shape and glued or bonded to the surface of the natural fingernail. Because wraps are the softest of the artificialartificialartificial fingernails, they are also the least durable. However, because they are so thin, smooth, and lightweight, wraps are usually considered to be the most natural looking of all the artificialartificialartificial fingernails. What exactly are uv nails? crystal nails? a silk wrap?

Should I get a silk wrap (nails)?

I wanna get my nails done for my birthday, but my nails are thin and short from the last time I got them done because I got acrylic nails. I was advised to use silk wraps because they're better for your nails (even though I understand that any sort of fake nails weaken your nails) but I dunno if they'll last long because I use my hands a lot for cleaning and whatnot (I need them to last at least 2 weeks). Is it worth it to get a silk wrap or should I just get acrylic again?Should I get a silk wrap (nails)?
I have had acrylic nails on for almost 20 years and my nails are probably crappy under, but I dont ever have them removed, so I dont see them.

If you are going to keep getting them done on a reguar basis, go for the acrylic - its stronger and lasts better.

If you only intend on having them on for your birthday - get yourself a professional manicure instead.

Acrylic nails, silk wrap, or natural? Why?

Which do you prefer and why?

I was looking into Acrylics for a wedding.Acrylic nails, silk wrap, or natural? Why?
Natural - it's easy to take care of. Acrylic will ruin you real nails. Not really sure about silk wraps though.Acrylic nails, silk wrap, or natural? Why?
I have tried all types of nails and at the present I prefer the natural nails. However, if I had a special occasion to go to I would consider getting them done professionally.

    In my opinion:

The most important thing about any artificial nails is the process used to apply them. So keep this in mind and read article below:

Since there are so many variables when it comes to gel nails, acrylic nails, natural nails and everything in between that your best bet is always to go to a trusted tail technician.

Ask your friends who they use or call the Better Business Bureau before going to a shop. Sometimes the only difference between gel and acrylic is how they’ve been applied, so you want to hire a professional you can trust..

    Have FUN at the wedding!
natural because then I won't have to deal with gettiny nails done too often

What are acrylic nails? And what are silk wrap-thingys?

Thinking about maybe doing something nice to my nails. What are acrylic nails? And what are silk wrap-thingys?
Acrylic nails are generally applied with a nail tip which is GLUED to your natural nail bed. An acrylic material is layered over the tip and hardens. The new fake nail is then filed down and can be painted. They can be very pretty but generally look fake. I have had acrylic nails for years.

I have also tried silk wraps. I have very paper-thin nails and although I have nice nail beds and my nails will grow, they tear easily. A nail tech suggested silk wraps during a manicure and I tried it... HATED them! I would much rather have the acrylic nails or nothing at all.

Let me just say that here in the Midwest most of the nail salons are owned by Asians. I'm not prejudiced, but the level of expertise and the quality of the products used has been greatly compromised, not to mention the customer service is not very high. I just removed my acrylic nails after three years. I used to be able to go three weeks between fills and lately I barely make it a week. Is it because I'm harder on my nails? No, it's because the nail techs use hardly any product to fill the nail and their still charging the same. The last fill I had I could still see natural nail on the side of one of my tips. I pointed it out to the tech and he said ';no problem, you be fine, see you in two weeks.'; The nail broke the next day; I was so furious that I just soaked them all off.

I am now undergoing extensive nail repair! RevivaNail every day and Solar Oil 2-3 times per day. It will take 3-6 months to get my nails back in good shape. I am so tempted to go and get another acrylic set put on, but I am trying to stay strong! I miss my nails! But I know the products they use are so toxic. There will probably be a whole new cancer epidemic in the next 30 years from all of the acrylic nail toxins! What are acrylic nails? And what are silk wrap-thingys?
Its a substance they put on your nails after they apply the fake tips and file them down and polish.
Years ago I went to a nail salon and was talked into getting silk wraps, supposedly they were better for my nails than acrylics. Yeah, well they BOTH suck. And they BOTH ruin your nails! You will have to keep going back and spending money or your nails are destroyed. My nails were long and strong naturally, the lady just talked me into it when all I wanted was a manicure. Don't do it. Just get them painted. After I had my silk wraps taken off it took a couple months to get them strong and long again.
They are both a layer of thingy that go over your nails. sometime, tips are glued to your nails to extend their length. Then your nails will be filed to a desired shape, smoothened and painted on. Color would last mush longer over acrylic. You can do a design if you don't like color. I love girls with french manicure, it's beautiful.

Trust me, you don't want the silk wrap, it's more expensive, take longer tim, weaker, not as pretty.
they r daa fake nails dat u put on dat never work LOL:-)
Acrylic nails are made from acrylis powder that is made into a gel using acetone and then applied over your natural nail. Silk wrap is an actual piece of very fine silk material, cut to fit across your nail and held in place with nail gel. As silk is so strong naturally it makes a fabulous repair item.
They are dirty! More bacteria grow on artificial nails than natural nails. You are better off eating well, taking vitamins, and getting a regular manicure if you want healthy nails.

I work in a hospital, and they require all employees to have natural nails (no artificial nails) because of infection risk.
My nail tech always recommends gel nails because they don't damage your nails like acrylic nails do. I have noticed the difference from when I use to get acrylic and them take them off and my nails use to peel and be extremely damaged. Now that I get the gel nails, and I take them off for a while so my nails can breathe, they're soft, but there not damaged at all. Once you put nail hardener on them, they're fine.

  • What is the difference between - gel nails, acrylic nails, silk wraps, extreme nails - besides price?

Want to get some fake nails - don't know which service to choose? pretty hard on nails ... which one is the best? last longer? what are the differences? help! thanks! :)What is the difference between - gel nails, acrylic nails, silk wraps, extreme nails - besides price?
The difference between Acrylic and Gels nails.

Acrylic nails are called many different names, with the nail technician's least favorite being ';fake nails';. We much prefer the term artificial nails. There are several different types of artificial nail enhancement products as well as application procedures. The most commonly applied enhancement is traditional acrylic, which is a two-part system of liquid (monomer) and powder (polymer). This type of product can be applied with one color of acrylic, pink and white acrylic for a Permanent French look, or can be applied with colored acrylic, glitter acrylic or in any combination. Pink and white acrylic nails are often referred to as ';Solar Nails';. Solar Nail is a product made by Creative Nail Design Systems and includes their Original Solar Nail, Radical Solar Nail, Retention + , and Moxie acrylic systems. Unless you actually see this product in its original bottle on the nail table, your nails may not be 'Solar Nails';.

Gel Nails is a one-part system consisting of the application of a thick viscosity gel acrylic. Gel is normally 'cured' under a UV light. Do not confuse gel with traditional acrylic. Even though the two products are actually acrylic, they apply and wear differently. Gel applied over acrylic to seal the surface does not make your nails ';Gel Nails';. Gel nails are actually acrylic nails; they are made from the same class of acrylates, but with different molecular structures, appearance, application procedures and different curing methods. Be certain you are receiving the artificial nails you requested.

Fiberglass is a product very widely used. Since it's very light, resistant, waterproof and slightly flexible it can be found on boats, bycicles, cars AND nails.

It's applied in the folowing maner:

A silky net is glued to the surface

The net is filled with resin makiing it transparent

Activator is spayed on to the resin making it dry

It's quite simple and very strong, it can be removed by soaking in acetone just like acrylics.

Silk is same as fiberglass just different weave ......

Never heard of extreme nailsWhat is the difference between - gel nails, acrylic nails, silk wraps, extreme nails - besides price?
    i would get GEL.

they last long, well for me they doo anyway

    =]

best of luck.my wishes to ya!
gel nails are just a gel that they put on over the acrylic when the nail is finished. It seals the nail and makes it stronger and also makes it so that your nails won't be damaged by nail polish remover. You have to buff the gel off. It's a really good option for someone who works with their hands a lot.

Acrylic is just a layer of acrylic put over a nail tip that is added to your natural nail for length.

Silk and Fiberglass wraps are just a piece of either silk or fiberglass fabric that is cut to the shape of your natural nail and put on with a bit of clear polish. This is only used to strengthen your natural nail, it does not add length.
silk wraps nail are the best because by wrapping the nail it protects it from easily breaking the other nails break and peal quickly
gel nails are less damaging and usually stay adhered a little better
all depends on your lifestyle and if yout want tips and how long you want them for, etc... heres the basics:

gels- my favorite, good for almost anyone, very hard, most natural looking, you can soak them in water, or actetone, or anything and they wont come off!!.. to remove them, you file them off... the only downside-its expensive! but its becuase the gel is expensive

acrylic-affordable, hard to break them, but they break down in water and actetone, and if not done right, will yellow... but they are cheap

silk wraps- i personally dont care for them.. people like then becuase they dont damage your nail, and are very light on the fingers.. they are hard to up keep, but since everyone is going green, they are becoming more popular.

i have never heard of extreme nails... im assuming is just another type of gel nail, but ill have to look into it...ill find out tonight lol... hope that helps! and yes, i recomoend gels if your hard on them, as long as you can afford them, if not, go with acrylics!
What exaclty is a gel nail? i've never heard of that. im curious to know.
gel nails are pretty much just a regular acrylic but at the end they put on this gel and put it under i light. i am not sure what it does but that what i get and my nails stay on forever! they tend to be 25-30$

acrylic nails are just basic acrylic put over your nails to make them hard. you can get that for 20$

silk wraps are the best quality and they look very natural. on most nails you know how your nails look thick from the acrylic? well the sick wrap you can even tell there is anythin on them it looks like your real nails.

but i am not sure what extreme nails are. sorry :(.

maybe they are like the really really really long nails some people have.

I was looking into getting silk nail wraps as they look more natural, with the proper care and maintenance they will last for approx 2-3 weeks as the natural nail grows over this period. When you get a gap between your cuticle and the wrap you will then need an infil.

What is better for your nails. Silk wrap or uv gel?

gels are a lot stronger than silks. so if you're hard on your hands go for gels. neither one is worse than the other if done correctlyWhat is better for your nails. Silk wrap or uv gel?
They are both really bad. Be careful when you get tips/gel nails at the salons. Before they do anything, be sure they use brand new files, buffers, trimmers, etc. You can get terrible fungus from those places.

    DIY silk nail wraps?

I found a kit that has the pre-cut silk and fiberglass tabs, glue and the resin spray. I used to love getting wraps, but since I moved to Middle-of-nowhere city I just can't find anyone to do them for me. I want to do a little bit of extension (not with an acrylic tip but using the silk as an extension). Can I do that at home? If so, what will I need?

Thank so much for your help :)DIY silk nail wraps?
no you actually have to have tips to do the extension cause the wrap isnt/wont be strong enough to create the nail tip....so you will need to go out an buy nail tips and glue and then apply the wraps(following the directions)and using the supplied items in the kit...you should be ok

    Nail wraps and tips?

what is the difference between nail wraps and tips? i want to get something put onto my nail in order to make it look longer but don't want to ruin the actual nail in the process?

do both wraps and tips need to be removed and filled in on a monthly basis? please explain me the difference and what happens with each one.

    Thanks!Nail wraps and tips?
A nail wrap is when they use acrylic/gel and they place it on top or your real nail...

You still have to get fill-ins every 2 weeks and if you take off the acrylic/gel there will still be nail damage...

A nail tip is when they actually glue a nail tip on your nail, then place acrylic on it...

What I do with mine is...

get a full set- gel nails

let them grow (still get fill ins)

eventually only your nail will be on there, the nail tip will have grown off.

I hope I explained that good enough...

    Good Luck!

Do Silk Wrap Nails have to be sanded around the cuticles like acrylics or gels?

And does nail polish stay as good on them as it does on acrylics or gels? I'm trying to find an alternative to my nails (which will not grow, or hold polish), and to the acrylics and gels that have to be sanded around the cuticle (because I always seem to get nicked with the sander, and I don't want to take the chance of getting infected or an infection).

Thanks in advance....Do Silk Wrap Nails have to be sanded around the cuticles like acrylics or gels?
actually yes they do so they can be smooth....all nail enhancements have to be filled in some way....if you are getting knicked with the drill then you can request them not to use the drill.....and if you're getting knicked then chances are the person you're going to wasnt trained on how to properly use the electric file.....so if you MUST go to this person request they hand file everything....its not the nail enhancement that wont hold the polish 9 times outta 10 the polish is too old or the tech is not using a good base coat....for polish to adhere to the nail longer a good base coat should be used something like a tacky base coat makes the polish adhere to the nail better

Whats better after acrylic nails? Silk wrap or gel?

  • How do you do nail wraps?

i wanna learn how to do my own gel nails and nail wraps. i found some kits but i wanted to know how complicated it is b4 i actually buy itHow do you do nail wraps?
it's easier to make a chicken wrap. start with that and then work your way up to nails. How do you do nail wraps?
its not complicated its just that practice makes perfect!!!!

Does sally hansens hard as wraps nail polish really work?

Yes they do. They dry fast too.

What can I do to make my nails stronger and not flake off so easily? Will a silk wrap make them stronger?

They will grow, although slowly, but once they get just past the tips of my fingers they flake off in layers. What can I do to make my nails stronger and not flake off so easily? Will a silk wrap make them stronger?
Drink lots of milkWhat can I do to make my nails stronger and not flake off so easily? Will a silk wrap make them stronger?
    duct tape
i dont kno about the silk wrap but try sally hansen diamond strength for nails somethin like that apparently its workls really well..
take calcium, and go to the beauty supply store, and get that almond oil, use it every night, it makes your nails more resilient.

the almond oil- super nail dryer.. but it is great for your cuticles too!
Gelitan really does work -- try eating it for a while and you'll see a big difference.
they have a nail strengthen polish that has vitamin E it really works in about 4-5 days
try clear nail poliish w/ enamel (or however its spelled))
Theres an Avon brand clear coat that I believe has Diamond Dust in it. Works great for the Other Half.

    The Syko Ward
Try using Nail Envy by OPI....it takes awhile for you to notice a difference (like a month)...but it works great!! I have very brittle and peely nails...this works great!!
First are you sure its not a fungus that is making them flake, its a classic sign. If so then try some spirulina, but make sure you dont an allergy to algae. Also take in calcium but remember that too much calcium is a very bad thing. Vitamin E also helps with hair and nails try getting some of that. Also too some meds will make your nails do this or a vitamin deficiency.
    prenatal vitamins
The FIRST thing you should do is see a doctor! Nails that 'break' and 'flake' are a symptom of thyroid problems ... especially if you are also gaining a lot of weight, are 'underweight' or have little energy. Getting your thyroid 'fixed' will help your nails ... but they will still 'flake' at times if your thyroid gets 'off' just a little bit.
Drink milk on the daily, take vitamins that help build up your calcium level, and buy the clear finger nail polish and apply 2 coats to clean dry nails everyday! If U follo dese directionz yo nails will probably end up the way U want dem 2 B!!Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, Calcium. Dairy or products that have calcium and lotion, it's a dry, harsh world in the winter. Good luck and then go get a manicure!!

Im wearing a green wrap dress to a wedding. How should I wear my hair, make-up and nails?

Im wearing black tights and shoes. I have medium brown hair , brown eyes and tan skin. Oh and I dont like French manicures.Im wearing a green wrap dress to a wedding. How should I wear my hair, make-up and nails?
A clear or neutral nail polish would be best. Leave your hair down, maybe have them in soft curls or waves. For your make-up, also keep it soft, since your dress is already green. Some chocolate eyeshadows would enhance your eye color, and don't bronze too much.

I don't know about the black tights...Im wearing a green wrap dress to a wedding. How should I wear my hair, make-up and nails?
    Hey girl!

Your going to love this trick! Go to a salon and get a french bun on your hair!

get the paris look going on i know you dont like french mancuires but that doesnt mean you wont like french hair bun looks!

also for make-up wear a light colored lip liner, lipstick, and lipgloss put your lip wear on the way i listed for best coverage.

for skin wear bare minerals make-up especially the warmth all over face color.

order the starter kit at www. bare minerals.com

and last but not least for nails wear a darkish and lightish colored nail polish your choice!

for you eyes a light green eyeshadow!

    I hope i helped!

    Hope the wedding goes Fab

I know you will be the most beautiful person there!

    p.s and the bride!
Why don't you try an updo.
Depending on the shade of green I would go with natural color make-up, natural pantyhose and brown shoes,(or no hose at all) hair a few curls to hang and pin the rest up.
green eyeshadow but not too dark hair in soft curls pulled half back and nails maybe like a cream color since u don't like french
NO BLACK TIGHTS!!! But everything else is fine. where you hair in either spiral curals like Monica or where it soft and wavy. where it down. You nails should but clear, neutral, or the color of your dress. Your make-up should be neutral too so it won't be over the top and yet still looks like you have some on. If not, just have some they color of your dress or accesories. You will look fabuloso!
Please don't wear the black tights. Wear nice high heel sandals. For your hair go for something simple, straighten it or do some soft curls. For your makeup I would go for smokey eyes (try some bronzed eye shadow and black eye liner)
Throw out the dress and go gothic style. Black everything. Wear your hair down and curly. Very pretty.
black tights? no dont wear that. black shoes ok hair do it up and if you dont like french manicures, get an american tip manicure it looks more natural some nice green shimmery eyeshadow will be nice

Nails: What exactly is a silk wrap, and what is its benefits?

I just recently got an overlay and I didnt like how it left my natural nails looking, so I was lookin to try something different. I need something that both strengthen and not destry my nails.Nails: What exactly is a silk wrap, and what is its benefits?
A silk wrap is a piece of very tightly woven silk that can be prefit or cut exactly to match your nail plate. It is laid on top of your nail and several coats of a high tech resin are applied over the silk. An aerosol glue dryer is then sprayed over the nail and thus hardening the glue. The next step is to file and buff and prepare to polish. If all these steps are done properly, your nails whether they are natural or tips should be undetectable as fake. I have had excellent success with silk wraps and have been doing nails professionally for over 20 years. They require fill-in's every two weeks just like any other enhancements. They are durable and are alot thinner that acrylic. Just remember that your natural nails should NEVER be prepped with a drill. Your natural nails should be ';etched';, which means very light filing to remove the oils that accumulate on the nail plate. I would definitely recommend you seek out a professional in your area and not one of those ';discount'; salons. Feel free to email me anytime if you should have any questions. Good luck to you.Nails: What exactly is a silk wrap, and what is its benefits?
Wraps are pieces of silk, linen or fiberglass that have been glued to the nail. This adds strength, and sometimes length, to the nail. Also though applied on top of natural nails, wraps are most commonly used to strengthen tips. Silk is the most natural-looking wrap and provides a lot of flexibility, but it is often too delicate for those with active lifestyles. Linen is stronger, but not transparent and appears quite thick. Fibreglass provides the best of both worlds since it gives the natural look of silk and the strength of linen. All are sort of not great for your natural nail.

What do all of the different types of fake nails mean (acrylic, silk wrap, etc.), which is the most natural?

I've had alot of people ask me which is better for your nails... In my professional opinion Wraps are better due to the fact that they are the lighter of the three.

Most nails become dependent on things that are applied to the nail. The best way to grow strong healthy nails is to get them manicured on a regular basis without adding any additives to them. Yes its true most people have naturally weak nails and for them I suggest to get an overlay to their nails and maintain their keep up.

That's why its soooo important that your nail tech be more than just a person who applies tips... She/ He should be just like your doctor(educated and informed).

I do more acrylics than gels and wraps because to me they are more durable than the three.

Now when it comes down to the removal process Acrylics and Wraps are removed the same way with 100% acetone, while Gels have to be drilled off with an electric file. Now there are gels out there that can be removed just like acrylics and wraps and they are called NO-Light Gels(which I prefer to work with-because they are not as time consuming as regular gels). Gels are easier to break than acrylics because when you break an acrylic the tip just pops off and more than likely you are left with the new growth(if any), but if Gels break they shatter like glass and nine times out of 10 you lose the whole tip including the new growth. What do all of the different types of fake nails mean (acrylic, silk wrap, etc.), which is the most natural?

What is a China Silk Wrap in relation to manicures and nails?

I saw this at the salon today on a business card. I would've asked but it was hard to understand the tech. What is a China Silk Wrap in relation to manicures and nails?
Another popular alternative to acrylic or gel preparations are Fiberglass or Silk wraps. They are done by cutting pieces of actual fiberglass or silk fabric to fit on the surface of the nail or tip and then it is sealed down with a resin or glue. These are a possible alternative for those who are allergic to chemicals used in the acrylic or gel process.

I used to have them as they looked more natural than acrylics. I tried silk wraps but they weren't as durable as I wanted, so I ended up with fiberglass wraps and they were durable and looked totally natural.

Does anyone like silk wrap nails?

I've never tried it! I wana hear your opinion on them please!Does anyone like silk wrap nails?
I have gel. It costs the same amount. The gel bonds to your nails better and the gel doesn't crack and lift because it bends to the shape of your nails and what you are doing. For example, I type A LOT and they are great.

  • How do you refil silk wrap nails? ?

with silk nails, do you just cut the desired shape and stick to the cuticle of the nail agen? or do you have to leave it to grow out and then stick other one on?How do you refil silk wrap nails? ?
Silk wrap nails use resin, when your nails have grown enough for you to notice a ridge then you can either file/buff the ridge smooth so its flush with your own nail (great care must be taken so that you're not filing your own nail) or you can have an infill of resin. when your nails have grown so much that the silk is mainly on your free edge with very little left on your nail body then its time to remove and have a fresh set (roughly 4 months apart depending on speed of nail growth)

Of all the nail systems I prefer the wrap system...its more natural looking and actingHow do you refil silk wrap nails? ?
You need to wait for them to fall off and use a new one, or wait for them to grow out.

Is a gel wrap good for natural nails?

If not, what kind of nail salon treatment works on natural nails without damaging them? I have healthy nails, but I never wear nail polish since the natural oils in my nail beds don鈥檛 allow the nail polish to adhere too well. I've heard that silk wraps aren't good either. Can anyone help?Is a gel wrap good for natural nails?
Anything you put on your nails that have chemicals in them cause some sort of damage.......

Silk nails if properly applied cause minimal damage......but they should be maintained for best results......as they are an enhancement service......

You could buy a nail hardener ....go to a Salon or beauty supply and buy a line called '; Nail Tek'; this is the best .......

Also the reason polish may not adhere well is because of the oils...you need to dehydrate the nail plate to remove this before applying the polish .....try putting rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball rub on nail...then apply your base coat polish , regular coloured polish and a good top coat for best resultsIs a gel wrap good for natural nails?
they have to sand down the nail itself for the gel to attach so yes, will damage them
I've also been a nail tech and salon owner for years. I have to agree that any product you have adhered to your nail has the potential for damaging them. A lot of products claim to not harm the natural nail, and the chemical composition may not, but breaking, picking, chipping, or the peeling off of anything adhered to your nails will cause damage. If you consider getting any kind of enhancement, maintenance is the key to reducing any kind of damage. If you like the look of natural nails, check out nail hardeners that you can pick up at Sally's Beauty Supply. You usually add a layer every day for 7 days, then remove and start over the next week.
Sorry, but I have been doing nails, hair, and skin care for 7 years and I can tell you nothing you adhere to your natural nail is good for them. Its all bad. Try Nailtech, or Nailtex. (1 is just a knock off of the other). Just a clear nail polish. Makes your natural nails grow like weeds, plus they get really strong and healthy. Just make sure you follow the directions correctly. and make sure you get the maintance formula when your nail are ready for it.
i work at a nail solon and it is and it also depends how thin ur nails are

Does anyone know about Silk wrap Nails?

Do you have to put on tips for silk wrap nails?Does anyone know about Silk wrap Nails?
No it doesn't have a tip and they look like glass. What they use is a paper mold that they put underneath your nail and create a tip with it and let it dry and mold it into a nail shape. They cost more than acrylic nails but they look so nice and glossy!Does anyone know about Silk wrap Nails?
Hmm what the other answerer described is a sculptured nail, not a silk wrap nail.

No you don't have to have tips for a silk wrap. You can just have them on your natural nails. The purpose of it is to give more support for your nails, so it's good for someone who wants to grow out their natural nails but not go for acrylics.

You can always tell them your opinion and they won't be mad at you...You don't have to search all over the internet or have some friends to draw it up for you, the tattoo artist will draw it up for you
Describe it to your artist, and he/she will work with you to create the exact image you want.

What is the safest way to remove false nail extensions with silk wraps?

Either go back to the salon to have them removed or use this method I use on clients

Get half a cotton wool ball , soak it in pure acetone and place on your nail, then wrap your thumb tip in a small piece of kitchen foil. Repeat on the remaining 4 fingers of one hand. After 10 minutes gently remove your thumb from its foil pod and buff off any softened resin and replace in the foil pod, do this on the other nails repeating until its all gone. Once one hand is done you do the other hand. When you are all done treat your nails to some cuticle oil...acetone is very drying

What is the safest way to remove false nail extensions with silk wraps?
You can either go to the salon and pay them to take them off for you.

Or soak your nails in acetone until the wraps fall off. But you're going to have to buff your nail bed after you are done to smooth it down. Also you can use nail polish with calcium in it to restore your nails. It helped my real nails to grow back, fast, healthy and strong. What is the safest way to remove false nail extensions with silk wraps?
Prob best to soak them in acetone. use something like an egg cup, fill with acetone and leave one finger at a time in it for a few minutes, take finger out, remove surface of nail with a tissue or cotton wool and then replace in the acetone and repeat. Takes a while but its gentler than filling them off, maybe set aside an evening for the task, when fully removed soak your cuticles with cuticle oil and use a good hand and nail cream. leave to rest before using nail varnish etc.
Go to the salon and pay to have them remove it.

As a nail tech, I can tell you that getting a pedicure is the BEST thing to go for!!!! Your feet take a beating every day and need the most care... it's also the most relaxing of the spa services--aside from a full massage. For the best experience, avoid those discount nail salons--too much traffic for relaxing.

Silk Wraps are for reinforcing your natural nail, they don't serve well as artificial nails alone. If you have fairly strong natural nails and just need a little extra help in keeping them from breaking this would be a good option for you.

Go for a specialty pedicure! Don't skimp on the price, you want the best!

Things to avoid... foot razors! Only a medical dr should be using blades (most states they are illegal but some get away with it because folks don't know they are) Avoid any tech that's not willing to explain proceedures, and run like the dickens if the footbath isn't clean or they pull their clippers (metal instruments) out of a drawer (they should be in a sanitizer bath or sealed packages) and make sure they use NEW files and such (the disposable stuff).

Massages are great if you like them (I've always been too weird about people touching my body to be comfortable) and no, you don't have to be totally nude. Explain that you are nervous and they will understand... ANY respectable massage therapist will be more than glad to accomidate you to make you comfortable!

  • Have you ever had silk wrap nails?

I went to the salon for a manicure and the lady asked if I wanted acrylic nails. I told her no because I really don't need them. I have nice nails and I don't want to damage them. She suggested silk wrap which she said would protect my nails. The only reason silk wrap appeals to me is because she said the nail polish stays on for 3 weeks as opposed to chipping off with natural nails. Should I get the silk wrap?Have you ever had silk wrap nails?
I prefer silk or fibreglass systems but if your nails are currently fine then dont bother. The salon is just trying to drum up extra business, yes sure polish can stay on longer but if you buy a decent base coat you'll get over a week anyway. With ANY nail system you are looking at constant upkeep...depending on how quick your nails grow you will be there every 2-3 weeks. The wrap makes your nails harder, more brittle so more prone to breaking where your natural nail is likely to flex. Dont get me wrong, I like wraps but I prefer real nails.

I use wraps on my fingers when I've chipped or ripped a nail to add strength and keep them all the same length. I'll use wraps on clients hands where there own nails are too weak or too prone to splitting etc and i'll occasionally use wrap system with tips if a client requestsHave you ever had silk wrap nails?
get a regular manicure because silk wrap is really expensive
no, just get a normal manicure
    yeah you should try that(:

How do you remove the silk tip/wrap from nails?

I had silk tips (tips w/ silk powder) put on and I am tired of them. i want them off. Any way I can do this at home? How do you remove the silk tip/wrap from nails?
soak in warm water for about 15 minutes, and depending on your pain threshold, you can either pry them off or work at them with acetone.

What is the difference between acrylic nails and silk wrap?

i just had my acrylic soaked off. and i was horrified by what i saw underneath. my nail looked so bad, and it was as thin as paper, i let them put the silk wrap on anyway because it looked so bad. if i wanted to eventually stop putting this stuff on my nails. what is the best way to transition to natural. i dont want to go through the soak again, its a very strong chemical. What is the difference between acrylic nails and silk wrap?
Well unfortunatly thats the only way. Once you have acylic nails it will take approx 6 months for them to grow back naturally. So what I did was I got a buffer for nails and then put 3 coats of a real good clear topcoat on until they get strong. I love the look of those nails but I agree I hate the after effects of taking them off too. What is the difference between acrylic nails and silk wrap?
silk wrap is your real nail w/ a silk layer over it, acrylic are thick and can give u fungus yuck!

Has anyone tried the Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps nail polish?

My nails have been a little weak lately and I saw this at the store. I figured I'd find out a little more about it before I spent $10 for it. I wanted to know if anyone has tried it and did it work or not? How many days did it last? Is it worth buying?

Thank You!Has anyone tried the Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps nail polish?
Yup, I tried it. I'd just removed a set of solar nails so my nartural nails were pretty thin and weak. After I used it, it looked great for the first few hours. Then the stuff visibly cracked within 24 hours and started flaking off by the second day. I usually love Sally Hansen nail strengthers but I do NOT recommend this one.Has anyone tried the Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps nail polish?
I love the stuff! I only paid around $5 for a bottle of clear Hard as Wraps - acrylic gel with nylon. I actually have long nails now that are very tough - and I am not easy on my hands. I have heard others complain about bubbling and flaking - but I haven't had any problems at all.
i have an associate who tried it and she liked it alot mostly because it didnt chip as fast as all the other nail polish.
i use it, but it's not really good. it peels and chips off easily
Yes, I use the Hard as Wraps (blue) and the regular Hard as Nails (pink and clear) polishes by Sally Hansen over my acrylic sets and on my natural nails after removing them, and I believe that it helps. But, it is the only brand that I have used, so I may be a little biased.

i do nails myself so this just sounds like the nail was forcefully ripped off and when the acrylic nail is glued on, it is filed down close to the nail bed as much as possible. its very painfull when ripped off but if there is a blueish tint to your nail bed or when you squeeze the finger tip and the blood doesnt flow back within 2-3 seconds you may have loss circulation. but thats hardly even possible to lose circulation from a acrylic nail coming off. i wouldnt worry. try to go to sleep and the pain should be gone the next morningMy acrylic nail fell off and i decided to wrap a bandaid on it before i went to bed?
go see the doctor tomorrow - you may have done some damage to your nail bed depending on how forcefully the nail popped off.

maybe put it in one of the boxes that like, chinese food comes in (not litterally though) i think that most crafts stores sell them, and it'd really surprise her! also, fill the rest of the box with tissue paper, to keep her guessing. have fun!How do you wrap nail polish?
Put it in a cute bag ovcourse! I never wrap gifts in wrapping paper. Its way cleaner and neat and cute looking when you stick it in a bag with tissue paper. make it colorful and fun! if you want to be super creative get a used bag and color on it. Inside jokes or fun random things! it will make her laugh! and shell love that its strate from the heart.

What is the difference between a nail wrap, nail tips, and acryllics?

A nail wrap, also known as a sculpted nail is when a sticker is placed under the free edge of the nail and a product is applied on the sticker to add length. Nail tips are used with or without a product. They will last about 3 days with no product as they are just glued on. Acrylics are false nails, as well as gels. Acrylic is applied to the whole nail and will last about 3 weeks depending on how fast your nails grow! What is the difference between a nail wrap, nail tips, and acryllics?
Acrylics are fake nails and nail tips are just the painted tip on a nail...like..a french manicure.

Do natural nails still grow with tips? + a nail wrap Q?

Yes your nails still grow. That's why you have to get fill-ins occasionally.

And I'm pretty sure you have to remove nail wraps even though I've never gotten them.
